Chapter 7: Peer Production, Social Media and Web 2.0:

  1. What distinguishes Web 2.0 technologies and services from the prior generation of Internet sites?  Since this book was published, there are many conversations going on about Web 3.0—what is it?
  2. Is it ethical for a firm to edit their own Wikipedia entry?  Why or why not?  How might this impact their credibility with customers?
  3. In what ways are legal issues of concern to prediction market operators?

Chapter 8:  Facebook 

  1. What is a “CDN?”  The book talks about a company named Akamai as a CDN.  Find their website, what do they do and why, as a CIO would you want to use their product?  What benefits would it provide to you.  Use only their website and provide the url.
  2. How are firms attempting to leverage social networks, such as Facebook, for brand and product engagement?  Be specific – discuss only these two areas.
  3. What factors encourage firms to grow and international user base as quickly as possible?  Why is this a risk?  What sorts of firms are at more of a risk than others?

Chapter 9: Software

  1. What are embedded systems?  Find two examples in products used bybusinesses today (not consumers).  Properly cite your example using APA standards.
  2. What is CMM and why should companies follow this process standard for software development?  Read this article at Wikipedia first: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capability_Maturity_Model
  3. What is TCO?  What costs should a company consider when choosing to buy and implement a new system?

Chapter 10:  More Software

  1. What is SaaS?  What are the pros and cons of a company using SaaS vs. buying software and implementing and supporting it in their own IT department?
  2. What is the Cloud?  What are the pros and cons of storing data or resources at a vendor’s cloud site vs. a company buying their own services and placing them in their own facilities?
